I alluded to our new sewing shop in Ely in my previous post. Sew Much To Do opened its doors in November, just in time for those last minute Christmas Makes. We are fortunate in Ely to already have an excellent haberdashery department within the City Cycle Centre that is reminiscent of an Aladdin's cave, plus a couple of wool shop ventures. But Sew Much to Do is our first dedicated sewing shop.
I could barely contain my crafty excitement on my first visit. The proprietor Leslie Partridge has the kind of enthusiasm for sewing that is infectious and has created a well stocked, airy and welcoming haven which includes a wall of fresh and vibrant FQ's and a dedicated area for local crafts people to sell their creations.
But for me, the main draw is the programme of workshops which launched this month catering for all ages and abilities, including a Wednesday morning drop in club, all held in a dedicated workshop room on the first floor. I was first through the doors for the inaugural Wednesday club and along with four like-minded souls we were encouraged to suggest additions and tweaks on this "dry run" to get the space and the club functioning to the max. It was a great way to pass a couple of hours and it's only a hop and a skip downstairs to purchase any forgotten supplies. I came away with a much longer list of projects to do, workshops to attend and most importantly some inspirational local contacts.
Wednesday is my new favourite day of the week!
Very pleased you have jumped in with a blog- and I cannot tell you how jealous I am, that you have a convenient sewing shop that sounds brilliant!
ReplyDeleteSee you at FQ retreat- I will also be a first timer!
Thanks for the support. See you in London mammafairy.
Deletereally looking forward to meeting you! See you there- and I will be watching your blog for fun stuff coming up ;-)
DeleteAnd a little plea, please take off that word verification thingummy bob- There is an area in your options which lets you do it- and if you do get some spam- you can always put it back!
ReplyDeleteWill do, thanks for the tip.
DeleteSounds like a great shop. I wish we had a nice quilt shop in the area, it would save me from having to buy fabric online all the time.
